In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth — something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure I was even going to see this film in theaters but I got an email about Advance IMAX Screenings and I figured why not! I’m really glad I decided to go and even more glad that it forced me into seeing it in an IMAX theater. The intense action in this movie was really spectacular on the big screen as well as with the stellar IMAX sound. I think the amazing special effects in this movie is part of why I enjoyed it. I really liked the entire mystery aspect it had, as well. Even the trailer had that mystery about it and I think that’s brilliant. So often trailers tell the entire story and don’t allow you to discover it yourself when you actually see the movies. I also thought it being set in 1979 was really charming. I’m sure folks who grew up around that time will feel a little nostalgic! All around it was pretty enjoyable. Lots of action, a bit of mystery, some adorable childhood love story and even a few chuckles here and there! One bit of advice, don’t rush out of the theater once the credits start rolling. There is a little clip that rolls during the credits and it’s worth sticking around for.
